Final Changes

Due to our unexpected snow day, all finals will be held on Monday, December 20 through Wednesday, December 21. Here is the new exam schedule:


  • Monday, December 20th – periods 4, 1 and 2       
  • Tuesday, December 21st – periods 5, 3 and 7
  • Wednesday, December 22nd – periods 6 and 8

I will still collect all Studio Project drawings on exam day, but since we will have time in class on Friday, I will also accept them on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Studio Project: Value Study Still Life

  • Monday: Discuss composition and using the viewfinder. Handout the final exam review handouts from the Review Power Point.
  • Tuesday: Work on still life drawing.
  • Wednesday: Work on still life drawing. Value to Model Forms mini-labs due in your journal for a grade.
  • Thursday: Work on still life. Still life drawing is due.

There will not be a test over unit 3, instead it will a part of the final exam.

Studio Project: Value Study Still Life

  • Monday: Work on Value Sphere and Cylinder.
  • Tuesday: Work on Value Cube and Cone.
  • Wednesday: Introduce viewfinders and thumbnails. Begin planning still life.
  • Thursday: Work on still life.
  • Friday: Work on still life.
Unit 3 Test on Monday, Dec. 12. It will cover drawing and aesthetics.

Project: Aesthetics and Art Criticism

  • Monday: Extra Credit Due Today ONLY! Finish staining Ceramic pinch pots to take home. Finish 2-point perspective Cityscape drawings in journal-Due tomorrow at beginning of class!
  • Tuesday: 2-point perspective Cityscape Drawings Due Today! Slide show on Aesthetics and Art Criticism. In-class group art critique of famous artworks.
  • Wednesday: Work in table groups to Critique assigned artwork using Feldman's Art Criticism Model. Prepare poster and presentation of critique for class.
  • Thursday: Begin group Presentations of Art Criticisms.
  • Friday: Finish group Presentations of Art Criticisms. Introduce Value Studio project.
HOMEWORK: Next week we will begin studying Value for the end of our Drawing Unit. Every student MUST bring their Drawing Kits (provided at beginning of semester) with them to class by Monday December 6. New drawing kits may be purchased in the art room for $7 if needed.

Project: 1 and 2 point Perspective

  • Monday: Last day to turn in Contour Hand Compositions with Rubric attached. Introduce Perspective. Bring Journals and a pencil and eraser to begin working on 2-point Perspective Cityscapes. We will also be staining our fired pinch pots in groups today.
  • Tuesday: Work on 2-point perspective Cityscapes. Finish staining pinch pots.
  • Wednesday-Friday: Thanksgiving Break!

Studio Project: Contour Hand Compositions

  • Monday: Continue working on Contour Hand Compositions. Everyone should be drawing their contour hand composition on the watercolor paper, tomorrow we will be painting.
  • Tuesday: Demo on controlled use of watercolor. Choose color schemes to add watercolor to contour hand compositions.
  • Wednesday: Finish contour hand compositions-Due Friday.
  • Thursday-Friday: New VVJournal Assignment TBA

  • Monday: Unity Journal Assignment Due today! Bring black ballpoint pen for new drawings. Review for 3-D Test (Hint: look at Ceramics Slide show and Sculpture Slide show). Introduce Types of Drawing, begin Blind Contour drawings.
  • Tuesday: 3-D Test (Ceramics and Sculpture) Today. Introduce Types of Composition. Work on types of drawing.
  • Wednesday: Begin Contour Hand Compositions.
  • Thursday-Friday: Work on Contour Hand Compositions, begin adding watercolor using Color Schemes from unit 1.

  • Monday: Finish Journal Planning Pages and Sculpture Notes Page.  Cleaning up from clay. Ceramic Pinch Pots Due today.
  • Tuesday: Demo on building and armature; begin building insect armature.  Sculpture Notes Page and your Insect Sculpture Planning Pages are due.
  • Wednesday: Complete armatures and begin applying aluminum surface to insect sculptures. At least 5 aluminum cans due today.  Extra credit on journal: bring in extension cord. 
  • Thursday-Friday: Work on Insect sculptures.

Studio Projects: Completing the Double Pinch Pot in greenware and beginning our Aluminum Insects

  • Monday: Work on the Double Pinch Pot Jar, adding textures and cleaning up the openings.
  • Tuesday: Last day to work on your Double Pinch Pot Jar in class. Ceramics Notes Page and your Jar Planning Page are due.
  • Wednesday: Introduce Sculpture Terms and make sculpture notes pages. Begin an aluminum metal techniques board per table. Introduce Insect Planning Page for the Aluminum sculpture page. 5 images of an insect are due. They must be from different points of view.
  • Thursday-Friday: Work on your Insect Planning Pages in your journal. This page is due on Monday, October 25.

Studio Projects: Double Pinch Pot Jar

  • Monday: No school!
  • Tuesday: Abstract Color Study is due. Begin working with clay. Use clay to create at least 5 different textures. Write about them in your journal. Learn how to set up and clean up clay projects.
  • Wednesday: Begin the Double pinch pot jar.
  • Thursday: Complete the double pinch pots and join them. Use a paddle to help shape the form. Make a planning page in your journal by gesturing your pinch pot constructions in your journal. Plan the handle.
  • Friday: Work the double pinch pot jar. Add the handle that you planned.

  • Monday & Tuesday: Work on Abstract Color Study
  • Wednesday: Last day to work on Abstract Color Study in class
  • Thursday: Unit 1 Test over the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, and Color; Introduce Ceramics Power Point and clay terms with a power point. Notes on the different states of clay.
  • Friday: Introduce gesture drawing. Homework (due on Tuesday, 10/12) 5 gesture drawings of lidded objects around your house like a peanut-butter jar or a cookie jar.

  • Friday - Modified Contours of plants in class. Principles of Design Journal Entry is due!

Extra Credit --- Bring in a potted plant or flower. The first eight plants get extra credit, when they are taken home.

ANY JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT NOT COMPLETED IN CLASS IS CONSIDERED HOMEWORK.

September 7 - 10

  • Tuesday: Introduce Drawing Techniques and make a notes page on drawing techniques. Learn how to do blind contour and do timed drawings.
  • Wednesday : Learn how to do modified contour drawings. If there is time, we will work on the Elements of Art Journal Page.
  • Thursday: Watch Transformation Video. Blind contouring.
  • Friday: Work on eye-to-hand coordination and complete the Stravinsky drawing.
Elements of Art Journal Page will be due on Tuesday, September 14th at the beginning of class.

August 23 - 27

Since this will be our first week of class, instead of posting a daily schedule we will make sure to discuss and work on the following topics:


  • Introduction of class
  • Syllabus
  • Class rules and expectations
  • Set up our folders (Each class has a specific color folder and each student must have a two pocket 3-prong folder in the correct color. I will have folders available to purchase in class for .35¢, or you can purchase your own folder, but each student needs a folder by Wednesday. 6th period is blue, 7th period is green, and 8th period is yellow.)
  • Supply Fee

I will introduce Zentangles, Journalings, and we will begin to discuss the big question, "What is Art?".
