Monday, February 28

Work on the following as we go through the Collagraph project. Remember to check off on your Pre-Planning page handout as you complete something:
  • Pre-Planning Pages 1-3.
  • Complete the page activation with complementary borders.
  • Draw 3 shapes from the Matisse power point and talk about how Matisse used repetition and unity with each shape.
  • Cut and divide your sample prints at your table. Label and talk about what you did right and wrong with the prints (Page 3).
  • Begin your MAQUETTE for your Pre-Planning Page 4:
    • GREEN is for the background.
    • BLUE is for the Animal.
    • PURPLE is for the border.
    • RED, ORANGE, & YELLOW are for extra details.

Week of February 28 - March 4

PROJECT: COLLAGRAPHS!


  • Monday: Both pages of your animal morphs are due! Begin transferring your favorite morph into a maquette for page 4 of your Pre-Planning Pages. Continue working on Pre-Planning Pages.
  • Tuesday: Work on your maquette of your collagraph for Page 4 of the Pre-Planning pages. Continue working on Pre-Planning Pages.
  • Wednesday: Complete your Maquette. Pre-Planning Pages and Maquette are both due at the end of the period.
  • Thursday - Friday: Begin building your collagraph plate for your Studio Project using your Maquette.

Upcoming Due Dates:
  1. Animal Morphs - Both pages of animal morphs need to be complete by Monday. If you need another copy of the handout, click here.
  2. Collagraph Pre-Planning Pages - due on Wednesday, March 2nd (This date is tentative and will be reassessed at the end of the week). All four of your Pre-Planning pages are due. All information about the page can be found by clicking on this link.

  • Complete the page activation with complementary borders.
  • Draw 3 shapes from the Matisse power point and talk about how Matisse used repetition and unity with each shape.
  • Complete your 8 animal morphs.
  • In table groups, print your sample cards.
  • Cut and divide your sample prints at your table. Label and talk about what you did right and wrong with the prints (Page 3).
  • Glue down the GREEN construction paper onto Page 4.
  • Use the BLUE construction paper to draw your favorite morphed animal.

Updated Matisse Power Point

You need to draw three shapes from three different Matisse cutout collages. For each shape, you need to write in your journal about how he used the shape in repetition and how he created unity. (Pre-Planning Page 3)

Week of February 21 - 25

PROJECT: COLLAGRAPHS!


  • Monday - Wednesday: Work on printing your collagraph samples you made as a group. Work on your Pre-Planning pages 1-3. Complete your animal morphs through to the second page.
  • Thursday - Friday: Introduce and work on your MAQUETTE for your Studio Project Collagraph. You will use your morphed animal for the construction paper maquette that will go on your 4th and final page of your Pre-Planning Journal Pages.

  • In groups:
    • Seal your sample cards
    • Make borders in complementary colors using brayers and "Design" paper.
    • Emboss your sample cards in order to proof the techniques required. Make adjustments if necessary.

PROJECT: COLLAGRAPHS!


  • MondaySTUDIO PROJECT - Zentangled Initials and the Zentangled Initials Post-Planning Pages are due! FOLDER CHECK! Demo and discuss making 8 different texture sample cards per table for learning how to print Collagraphs. Homework: Choose your Animal to match your Personality, due on Wednesday. 
  • Tuesday: Complete the collagraph texture cards and make a border on your Collagraph Pre-Planning Pages.
  • Wednesday: Introduce Matisse's cutouts and morphing an object. Begin printing in groups of the collagraph samples, working on Matisse animal morphs, and your Pre-planning pages. Homework due - bring a photo of your ANIMAL that represents your personality.
  • Thursday - Friday: In groups work on printing your sample plates, morphing your animal, and completing your Pre-Planning Pages.

Upcoming Due Dates:
  1. Zentangled Initial Studio Project  - due on Monday, February 14th. Our last day to work on the project in class is Tuesday. All work on this project after Tuesday, Feb. 8th, will need to be completed on your own time. You can turn in your project at time as you complete, but after Monday, Feb. 14th late points will be deducted.

Class Presentation: Printmaking

This presentation introduces our printmaking project and gives definitions for specific printmaking terms we will using in class.

February 7 - 11

PROJECT: Complete Zentangled Initial Photogram and Begin COLLOGRAPHS!


  • Monday: PRE-PLANNING PAGES ARE FINALLY DUE at the beginning of class! Demo and discuss how to complete the Zentangled Initial Project. As each student completes their final project, clip a completed rubric to it and submit to your classes box in our class.
  • Tuesday: Complete the Studio Project and the Post-Planning Pages for the Zentangled Initial Photograms. ALL ZENTANGLED INITIAL PROJECTS AND POST-PLANNING PAGES FOR THIS PROJECT ARE DUE ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14.
  • Wednesday: Introduce Printmaking (my favorite!). Printmaking terms from the power point will be used in your Pre-Planning pages for the Collograph project.
  • Thursday: Work on Pre-Planning Pages for the Collograph project. Details for the Pre-Planning pages for the Collograph project will be passed out in class and then posted to the blog.
  • Friday: Work on Pre-Planning pages for the Collograph project.
